Ram’s standard engine is a 6.4-liter V8 that makes 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque, with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 20 offers lots of clever features its competitors don’t, including the Mega Cab, which offers slightly more rear legroom than the Crew Cab, but adds eight inches of storage space behind the rear seat. Ram’s prices are fairly consistent with its Detroit rivals, and as with HD trucks from Ford, Chevy and GMC, the 2500 gets expensive when luxury trimmings and lots of options are added. Crew Cab models start at $43,165, and the Mega Cab, which comes only in with four-wheel drive (4WD), begins at $52,540. The Regular Cab comes in the two lowest trims, starting at $39,545 including a $1,795 destination fee. While it has fractionally less legroom than GMC’s Sierra 2500HD, the Mega Cab is the biggest cab in the class and offers the most storage room. Its cab is 11.1 inches longer than the Crew Cab, with three inches devoted to extra rear-seat legroom, and the rest to storage behind that seat. Finally, there’s the Mega Cab, with a 6-foot-4 bed. Instead, it goes straight to a Crew Cab-the most popular configuration among all full-size trucks-with a 6-foot-4 or 8-foot box. The 2500 comes as a two-door Regular Cab with an 8-foot box but doesn’t offer an extended cab.

Like its 15 siblings, the Ram 2500 was an all-new model in 2019 and moves into 2022 still sitting at the top of the three-quarter ton class, with only trim changes. For those who need to haul larger loads, such as fifth-wheel campers or multi-horse trailers, a heavy-duty pickup is a must-have.
